We slept in this morning. We've decided to stay at our campsite for two nights so we'd have more time to go sightseeing. We headed up to Crazy Horse, a monument carved into a mountain like Mount Rushmore. Builders have been working on Crazy Horse for the past sixty years. They estimate it will be another sixty years before it will be finished. There was a museum at the base of Crazy Horse. They have all types of information and artifacts about Native American history. They also have lots of artisans who sell crafts there. One artist turns coins into jewelry, so my dad bought me an Indian-head penny necklace. We then continued to Mount Rushmore. It was (and still is) incredible! I took a picture and made it look like I was giving Abraham Lincoln a kiss on the cheek. Morgan squished George Washington's head. We marveled over the monument for a while, then got Mount Rushmore Nachos. Next we headed up to Sturgis, South Dakota. On our way, we stopped and did an alpine slide. You went up a chair lift and went down a 2,000 foot long slide. It was awesome! Sturgis was kind of cool (at first). The 77th Sturgis Bike Rally was going on. There were billions of motorcycles. At the "Welcome to Sturgis" sign there was a group of people called "Hellfighters." They are a group of Christians that talk to motorcyclists and tell them about Jesus and the Word of God. They were really nice, and they had awesome stuff for sale. We bought a couple of t-shirts. We soon discovered that bike rallies are inappropriate, so we left. We then drove down to Deadwood, South Dakota. It had the same problem as Sturgis, being that they are neighboring towns. We headed back to our campsite. We stopped at Candy Land on our way back for some ice cream. I got mango strawberry mix. It was really good. When we got back my parents stopped at the camp store to get some fire wood. There is a big "pillow" next to the playground. It's like a trampoline, but looks like a pillow. There were some kids playing on it so we went and played with them for an hour. Then we went back to our camper and had a campfire with s'mores. Tomorrow we are going to head to the Badlands and Iron Mountain. Stay tuned to experience our adventure!
