Devil's Tower

On our way out of Cody, Wyoming we stopped at Buffalo Bill Dam. There is a huge difference in water level from each side. We drove back into town, got lunch, then continued driving to Mount Rushmore. (On our way we saw a dead elk in the middle of the road. My dad, being my dad, said " Hey there was a rack on that dead animal. I think I should go cut it off." And cut it off he did. Well, more like twisted it off. And he only got one. Just so you know, I was totally against it.) We drove non-stop for about five hours then stopped at Devil's Tower, a huge rock formation with a 1.5 acre diameter and an elevation of 800 feet (1,200 feet above sea level). There is a 1.3 mile trail that goes around the base of the tower. Surrounding the tower is an "avalanche" of rocks. We climbed them to the base of the tower, until we reached a sign that said "No climbing past this point without a registration. It is a federal offense." There is a visitors center at the bottom of the rock "avalanche." I bought post cards. I am now up to 26. That would equal one for every day we've been gone. We have a KOA campsite reserved for us at Mount Rushmore. On our way, we passed a prairie dog colony. There were hundreds of them! After we left Devil's Tower, we headed to our campsite. Tomorrow we will go to Mount Rushmore. Stay tuned to experience our adventure!
