Movies and Mountains

Last night we had a campfire at an abandoned tent site, because our site didn't have a fire pit. This morning, we hung around the camper for a while, then took it down and attached it to our car. We drove a few minutes down the road into Astoria, Oregon. After we arrived, we went to the Oregon Film Museum. The museum is in the old town jail, where the jail-break scene was filmed from the movie The Goonies. We got to make mini movies and take mug shots, lay in a prison cell and direct movies. After we left the museum, we crossed a ginormous bridge into Washington State. Washington State is the farthest away I've been from Louisville within the US. On our way up the Washington coast, we stopped at Mount Saint Helens Visitor Center. There we saw several exhibits, a small film, pictures of its explosion, and informational plaques. The mountain would have been a huge detour, so we only saw it from a distance. It was still beautiful. We could see the snow on it. After we left the Visitor Center, we headed on up the coast, farther into Washington. After a few miles, we stopped at a small booth on the side of the road to buy some fresh cherries. They were delicious! There were sourish purple ones and sweet red and yellow ombré ones. I bet you can't guess which ones I liked. Hint: I hate sour food. After our cherry detour, we continued driving up the coast. We stopped at a pull off to go to the beach. There was a cute hiking trail that lead down to the beach. The trail cut through a forest, but there was something weird about the trees. They all had huge knots on them! We finished walking down to the beach. There were dead muscles and crabs everywhere. It was so depressing to see all God's animals dead, curled up on the shore to be eaten by birds. After we got past the animals, we played in ankle deep water and drew in the sand. After a while we left the beach, headed down the road and stopped at a quaint little resort to have dinner. While we waited, we played tetherball, ladder ball, and corn hole. After waiting, we went inside to a lobby with a burning wood fire. Then they seated us for dinner. That's where we are now: at dinner. Then we will head up the coast, farther into Washington. We have a campsite waiting for us in Forks. (Any Twilight fans out there?) Stay tuned to experience our adventure!

Pictures to come when I get better service. Sorry!!
